On the 5th of March 2008, the Netherlands recognized the independence of Kosovo. This date also marked the beginning of diplomatic relations and friendly cooperation, which brings about the 15 years anniversary of these relations.
To mark the collaboration and diplomatic relations, there is the aim to bridge the cultures and together, exchange best practices, from which both countries can benefit.
The theme of the Dutch culture week in Kosovo is:
“The Future is…”
With the youngest population in Europe, more than anything Kosovo is focused on the future. What does this future hold for them? With a substantial part of its population abroad, Kosovo’s future is also determined by those outside the country. In this event the floor will be given to Kosovars, what is their idea of Dutch society and what does this mean for the future of Kosovo?
The idea is to let Kosovar Dutch or Kosovar people who work, study or live in the Netherlands talk about their work and about the Netherlands. In doing so, both cultures are represented, we primarily share knowledge, best practices and experiences of Kosovars in the Netherlands. How can both cultures cooperate and improve each other?
The Netherlands is a modern country, everything is constantly redesigned, improved and adapted to the times. The people that realize are the citizens of the Netherlands, some of them born there, but some who are born in another country. It is this latter group of people we want to get to know. Who are these people who enrich Dutch society? What does their life in the Netherlands look like and how do they experience its culture? By inviting Kosovars who live in the Netherlands we ask them to bridge the two cultures. They will create a Kosovar framework through which Dutch culture can be understood.
The event will take place from May 19th till May 28th 2023. This will provide enough time to display as many interesting people as possible and illustrate the richness of the diaspora in the Netherlands. By targeting a different audience for each particular day and speaker, it is guaranteed that the event ceases to be refreshing and interesting for the whole time span.
